History of World Day Against Child Labour
The International Labour Organization (ILO) was found in 1919. Its goal was to promote social justice. To this date, the organization works towards the welfare of labours worldwide. Later in 1999, the ILO’s convention “Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention” got approval. Finally, in 2002, the organisation declared The World Day Against Child Labour. The goal was clear. To eradicate child labour.

The World Day Against Child Labour 2022 theme is “Universal Social Protection to End Child Labour”. We all know that the ultimate goal is to eliminate child labour entirely. The Governments of all the nations must provide social protection systems. By supporting the living of unfortunate children, their vulnerability to exploitation can be reduced. Investments should be made into systems that help tackle the problem of child labour. The only solution is to end the conditions that eventually give rise to child labour.

Child Labour Policies in India
- Article 24 of the Indian Constitution states that “No child below the age of fourteen years shall be employed to work in any factory or mine or employed in any hazardous employment”
- The Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act of 1986 prohibits employing children in 13 occupations and 57 processes. These occupations include transportation of goods by railways, selling of crackers and fireworks, foundries, and handling of toxic substances, etc.
- If a person is found to employ children in these occupations, they will have to serve an imprisonment of a minimum of 3 years
