Chess Olympiad 2022- FIDE Torch Relay Reaches Chandigarh
The Chess Olympiad Torch Relay started from Leh and reached Chandigarh on 23rd June 2022. Grandmaster Deep Sengupta gave the torch to Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Banwaru Lal Purohit. In Punjab, the torch travelled from Rock Garden to the Sukhna Lake and Rose Garden. Later, it was taken to Mohali. Finally, the torch was carried to the Attari border in Amritsar.

The important people present when the relay reached Chandigarh included the Mayor of Chandigarh Sarabjit Kaur Dhillon, Director of UT sports Tejdeep Singh Sainin, President of UT Cricket Association Sanjay Tandon, and the Professor of Chandigarh Chess Association Anil Raina. The crowd included a huge number of school children. Grandmaster Sengupta even played with a few.

The relay was launched by Prime Minister Narendar Modi on 19th June. During the launch, the FIDE president Arkady Dvorkovich, Indian Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand, and Union SPorts Miniter Anurag Thakur were present. The FIDE chess olympiad 2022 will take place from 28th July to 10th August in Chennai. Before this, the torch will be carried to 75 cities in 40 days. Check the full Chess olympiad calender here.
This is the first time that India will be hosting the FIDE chess Olympiad. On this very occasion, the All India Chess Federation has started the social media campaign ‘Namaste World’. This is a welcoming gesture by India to the communities participating from all over the world.

Chess Olympiad Dates
The Olypmiad will have different events and rounds of matches. All of them would take place in Chennai. The FIDE released its schedule a few days ago. The important dates are as follows.

Steps to Register for the FIDE Chess
Although the registration for the 44th chess olympiad ended on 27th May, the candidates who missed it can register till the 27th of June 2022. They will be required to pay 100 EUR per person as a penalty. Read the instructions given below and follow accordingly.

Step 2: Go to the ‘Registration’ section. Click on it.
Step 3: Enter your details to register for the olympiad.
