The Agneepath Yojana Scheme is a short term stint conducted by the Indian Army and the Ministry of Defence where youngsters and defense enthusiasts in India can get a chance to serve the army for two to three years. It is a name given to the Tour of Duty entry scheme of the Indian Army. The need for the scheme arose when in the COVID-19 pandemic, the recruitment for soldiers in the armed forces had been affected adversely. Over 1.25 lakh vacancies exist in the three services of Indian Defense Forces (namely, Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy). Therefore, to fill these vacancies the Central Government has decided to release such roles.
