On 28th June, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street, Manhattan. The reason that the Police raided it was that the bar wasn’t allow to serve to gay people. About 13 people, mostly drag queens and gay men, were in arrest. On this night, no body knew that a new ritual would begin. The LGBTQ+ community came together and fought against the harassment for days. This came to be know as Stonewall Riots or Stonewall Rebellion. Since it marked as the day for LGBTQ+ community standing up for their rights, June stared to be known as the Pride month.

In India too, people of this community organize rallies and events to celebrate. Even though homosexuality is decriminalized in India, the LGBTQ community faces discrimination. Hence, the month of June is all about them and their rights.
