Gaganyaan Mission of India: Gaganyaan is an Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) project that aims to send a three-person crew to space for five to seven days by 2022. Prime Minister Narendra Modi originally announced the space project in his Independence Day address to the country in 2018.

ISRO aims to launch two unmanned flights into space ahead of the human trip as part of the Gaganyaan mission. The first unmanned Gaganyaan Mission of India was set to launch in December 2020, followed by a second mission in June 2021. However, it has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic disrupting ISRO’s activities and operations.

  • The Gaganyaan spacecraft will be launched into a 300-400 kilometre low earth orbit (LEO).
  • The entire cost of the scheme is projected to be less than Rs.10,000 crore.
