Did the Punjab traffic cops recently send you an e-challan Punjab for a traffic rule violation? If so, you may have intentionally or unintentionally broken the traffic rule. The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) is working to create a digital Punjab, so there has been an increase in digital payment methods and procedures in the province. Most government-related services are now provided online, where they are much more accessible and efficient and one of them is e-challan Punjab. However, the e-challan system uses specialized Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and a Red Light Monitoring System (RLMS) to track traffic on the roads and automatically generates challans for all traffic violators, which are then sent to their homes.

  •  ANPR photographs and the Motor Transport Information Management System (MTMIS), which supports Punjab’s vehicle verification process, are used to identify the vehicle owner.
  • The owner must pay the fine within 10 days even if the car was being driven by someone else, and doing so will prevent the police from towing or seizing the car.
