Fake Universities List By UGC 2022-23: The University Grants Commission (UGC) is a statutory body of the Government of India. It was established on 28th December 1953. It has released a list of 21 fake universities. UGC derives its power from the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. The institutions included in the fake universities list By UGC are spread all over India. Delhi has eight, the highest number of fake universities. Uttar Pradesh has four. Odisha and West Bengal have two each. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh have one each.

• Sections 22 and 23 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 talk about the guidelines for declaring an institution fake.
• The commission has asked the students not to take admission in these unrecognized universities.
• In the fake universities list by UGC, Delhi has got the highest number of fake universities, followed by Uttar Pradesh.
