Every year on June 5th, the world observes World Environment Day. Over 100 nations around the world celebrate World Environment Day. It was begun in 1973 by the United Nations Environmental Program and is still going on today. The primary goal of commemorating this day is to raise environmental awareness. The inaugural World Environment Day was held in 1974, with the theme “Only One Earth.” Every year since 1974, the day has been observed with a special environmental focus.

The environment is humanity’s most valuable gift on this planet. We must emphasise the value of the environment and remind ourselves that nature should not be taken for granted. World Environment Day is marked across the world to honour and thank the environment for all that it has provided to people and to promise to safeguard it.

Environment in Danger

Because of the high amounts of pollution, the environment is in risk. Pollutants have trapped all of the primary components of the environment, including the hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere. Pollution levels are growing, threatening normal environmental conditions.

These pollutants can be natural (volcanic eruptions, forest fires, and so on) or man-made (pollutants released from industries, emissions from cars). The primary cause of fast environmental deterioration is man-made pollution. Air pollution, water pollution, and soil contamination are the three primary types of pollution.

Furthermore, different preventative steps to mitigate the impacts of global warming should be taken. We all know that global warming is to blame for the devastation of our ecosystem. As a result, it is our responsibility to safeguard the environment. Also, put an end to all of the exploitation that is ruining it. Because, mostly in end, it is a basic requirement for our existence and that of future generations.

How do we celebrate World Environment Day?

The primary goal of World Environment Day is to raise awareness about current environmental concerns. On this day, people gather to work together to better our lives. Every year, one subject or environmental concern is highlighted, and a vow to address that issue is made for that year. For instance, the subject for 2019 was air pollution.

On this day, organisations from all around the world get together to take little actions toward a better future. Workers and students are encouraged to plant trees or clean up some local areas at schools and offices. These simple actions can have a significant environmental impact.

To enhance environmental conditions, government organisations and leaders band together to combat issues and thereby aid in the preservation of our ecosystem. The government has taken efforts such as enacting tight rules and restricting the usage of plastics. Planting more trees can assist to reduce pollution and save the environment. Public awareness may also aid in the reduction of pollution and consequently the protection of the environment.

The purpose of World Environment Day is to create a beautiful world free of pollution and natural resource shortages. Always be aware of your actions and seek to maintain your surroundings clean and healthy. Natural resources should be protected and used effectively and properly. We can build a nice and healthy environment if we work together.
