Dhankhar was born in an agrarian family in a remote village in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district on May 18, 1951.

Jagdeep Dhankhar rose to prominence as a leading lawyer in Rajasthan, appearing in both the Rajasthan High Court and the Supreme Court.

– He was also the president of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association. – Jagdeep Dhankhar, a lawyer by trade, entered politics in 1989.

On Saturday, Jagdeep Dhankhar defeated Opposition candidate Margaret Alva by 346 votes in India's Vice Presidential election 2022.

Dhankhar will be the country's 14th Vice President, succeeding M Venkaiah Naidu. On August 11, he will take the oath of office.
