The Union Public Service Commission conducts UPSC ESE (IES) Exam. Its Pattern includes two offline exams. UPSC IES Prelims exam is a pen and paper-based test which will be conducted in offline mode. There will be two papers in the Prelims exam with multiple-choice questions. Candidates are provided OMR sheets for both papers, wherein the correct answer needs to be coloured.
For each wrong response, one-third mark will be deducted.

UPSC IES Mains Exam 2023 is a written examination in online mode with two papers. Both the papers will consist of questions from the opted Engineering discipline (Civil Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Electrical/ Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering). Candidates will have to attempt the 5 questions out of the 8 questions in the English language. There will be no negative marking in this exam. In case of illegible handwriting, 5% of the marks may be deducted.

Only qualified applicants for the written exams are called for the Interview round for 200 marks.
