Every May 21, India observes National Anti-Terrorism Day. The goal of this day is to keep young people away from terrorism and the cult of violence by stressing regular people’s suffering and how it damages national interests. Former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on this date in 1991.
The theme for this year’s National Anti-Terrorism Day has not yet been released, but you can check the last year’s 2021 Anti-Terrorism Day. Last year’s theme was “Homage To Heroes Who Died Fighting Terrorists”.
Anti-Terrorism Day is observed every year on May 21, the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Terrorists assassinated him on this day in 1991 as he was campaigning for the Congress party in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. The Anti-Terrorism Day remembers and honours the sacrifices made by thousands of military and security officials in the fight against terrorism in order to safeguard India’s citizens.
Following the assassination of India’s seventh Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, on May 21, 1991, the official declaration of National Anti-Terrorism Day was made. He was killed during a terrorist campaign in Tamil Nadu. The center then decided to designate May 21st as Anti-Terrorism Day during the administration of V.P. Singh.
The goal of Anti-Terrorism Day is to promote the public sensation of terrorism’s anti-social deportment while moreover disseminating the message of peace, humanism, unity, and harmony. Terrorism, in all of its forms and manifestations, jeopardizes national security as well as international stability and prosperity. It is a persistent global threat that knows no borders, ethnicities, or faiths, and it is an issue that the international polity must address.
“We, the people of India, having abiding faith in our country’s tradition of non-violence and tolerance, hereby solemnly affirm to oppose with our strength, all forms of terrorism and violence. We pledge to uphold and promote peace, social harmony, and understanding among all fellow human beings and fight the forces of disruption threatening human lives and values.”
The primary objective of this day is to steer young people away from terrorism and the cult of violence by emphasising the suffering of ordinary people and demonstrating how it harms national interests.
