International Civil Aviation Day is given a special anniversary theme chosen by the ICAO Council every five years to coincide with that organization’s anniversary—2014/2019/2024/2029, for example. The council representative also selects a single topic for the four years following the anniversary period.
“75 Years of Connecting the World” was the theme of the 2019 International Civil Aviation Day, which commemorated the 75th anniversary of civil aviation. The theme of World Civil Aviation Day 2020 was “Advancing Innovation for Global Aviation Development.” The council has decided to pursue this topic until 2023.
